Legislation passes in GA to allow APRN name on prescription bottles

Posted over 10 years ago by Julie Hannah

The Coalition of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (CAPRN) has announced that legislation passed today that will enable advance practice providers' names to be placed on the containers of medications they prescribe.  House Bill 211 included a change in the pharmacy code that mandated every dispensed medication lists a "physician's" name on the label regardless of who ordered the prescription.  The word "physician" was replaced by the word "provider", thus allowing APRN names to be listed on medication container labels in Georgia for the first time.  This provision will remove barriers in communication between patients, providers and pharmacies, and allows for the correct provider to be contacted when medication issues arise, thus supporting continuity of care.  This bill has passed both the Senate and the House and will now go to the governor for his signature.

This is evidence that our contribution to the work of our lobbyist, Laura Searcy, has paid off!

That is a great step in the right direction. Seems this is also a safety issue as well. Thanks Laura Searcy
